Women Leaders in College Sports launches "Because of Title IX" campaign

Mooney Feature

Kansas City, Mo. – To honor the 45th anniversary of Title IX's passage and celebrate more than four decades of female participation in high school and college sports, Women Leaders in College Sports is launching a #BecauseofTitleIX campaign on social media and on womenleadersincollegesports.org from today until June 23.

Today, the organization is featuring Laura Mooney, MCLA's Director of Athletics.  Mooney is entering her third year in leading the Trailblazer athletics department and has led the programs to a pair of conference championships and upgraded numerous athletic facilities during her short time in North Adams.

Every week day for 45 days, the organization will feature a woman who, because of Title IX, has benefited personally and professionally. The website will feature a Q&A profile in which each woman explains how the academic and athletic opportunities afforded to her because of Title IX have impacted her life, how other women have influenced her throughout her career, and how she's paying that forward by championing other women and girls in sports.

Social media (fb.com/WomenLeadersCS, and @WomenLeadersCS on Twitter and Instagram), will feature images of her playing athletics as a kid, in high school, or in college; or with the women and girls who she now champions; or with the person who championed her athletic, academic, and professional pursuits.

Among the 45 Women Leaders members featured are Chris Plonsky, women's athletics director and executive senior associate athletics director at the University of Texas; Vicky Chun, vice president and director of athletics at Colgate University and president of Women Leaders in College Sports; Kiki Baker Barnes, director of athletics at Dillard University; Amy Backus, director of athletics at Case Western Reserve University; and Noreen Morris, commissioner of the Northeast Conference.

Women Leaders in College Sports invites followers and fellow members to also share their #BecauseofTitleIX story on social media.
