Athletics Golf Classic raises $40,000 for Student-Athletes, honors Charlie O'Brien

Pittsfield, MA-- The 22nd annual MCLA Athletics Golf Classic was held yesterday under beautiful sunny skies at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, MA and was a tremendous success.  The event, which is held in support of the student-athletes at MCLA, raised $40,000 for the Athletics Department.  Longtime supporter of the golf classic and community leader Charlie O'Brien was selected as the guest of honor in 2018.  His influence was evident in all phases of the event.

Adams Community Bank served as the Presidents Club title sponsor after signing off on the largest gift in golf classic history!  Their contribution played a significant role in helping MCLA set an all time high for money raised at the event.  Adams Community Bank was awarded a plaque at the banquet that followed golf.

Donovan, O'Connor, & Dodig signed on as the Banquet sponsor, that was held in honor of O'Brien along with some raffle prizes and tournament results.

O'Brien has been a community leader for over 25 years in the Berkshires.  A longtime supporter of MCLA Athletics, this year's golf classic honoree is a strong and visible advocate for student-athletes and regional community causes.  O'Brien has been active on a number of regional boards including Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Berkshire Housing Development Corp., and the Berkshire Visitors Bureau.  He is a past board president of both the Northern Berkshire United Way and the Adams Lions Club.  O'Brien also serves on the boards of the American Bankers Association, the Massachusetts Bankers Association, and the Depositors Insurance Fund. 

128 golfers teed off in the scramble format at the Hills.  Prizes were awarded for the low gross and low net winners, along with closest to the pin prizes and long drive contests.  The 2018 event easily outpaced the previous classics besting last years $32,000 net by a wide margin.
