MCLA's National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration a success

North Adams, MA- On Saturday February 13th, the MCLA athletics department, along with student athletes and various other volunteers hosted a National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration.  A total of 57 girls and women attended the program, which consisted of various sports clinics, fitness sessions, and other interactive events.

The program was modeled after the official NGWSD motto of 2010, "Stay Strong, Play On!!"  Clinics were conducted by over 51 MCLA student athletes and 8 coaches, administrators, and community members.  The free clinics were offered for girls in Basketball, Volleyball, and Soccer.  The adult women participated in clinics for physical fitness, volleyball, and water aerobics.

Following the clinics, all participants and volunteers were guests at the MCLA Women's Basketball game versus Framingham State.  During halftime, eleven girls from the Northern Berkshire YMCA Myles Whitney Basketball league participated in an abbreviated halftime game.

Culminating the day for the girls was an essay contest in which each participant was asked what female athlete inspires you and why??

Following the MCLA Womens Basketball victory over the Rams, the team took part in an autograph session with the local youth.

The program attracted girls from all over Berkshire County, including Williamstown, North Adams, Clarksburg, Florida, Heath/Row, Pittsfield, Dalton, and Adams.

MCLA would like to thank the 2010 NGWSD Committee:
