MCLA shutout for third straight game in 11-0 loss at Union

Schenectady, NY- The MCLA Trailblazers baseball team was shut out for the third straight game as they fell to host Union College 11-0 this afternoon in a game held at Central Park.  Union matched a season high in runs scored as they improved to 8-4-1 overall.  MCLA drops their tenth straight game and now sits at 2-12.

Union only needed 11 hits to put up their 11 runs.   They swiped nine bases against MCLA while also benefitting from five walks and a hit batter.  MCLA ended the day with only five hits.

The Trailblazers had a great chance to grab the lead in the top of the first putting the first two runners on base, however a baserunning miscue led to a double play that left MCLA scoreless. Union would waste little time taking advantage.  They parlayed three hits and two MCLA errors into a three run first and never looked back.

They would tally another run in the second after a two out walk and a pair of stolen bases put a runner on third.  A two out hit would bring him around to make it 4-0.  Union then tacked on two in the fourth and three in the fifth to put the game away.  They were aided by more poor defense from MCLA in the process.

From there the story was Kent Curran.  The freshman tossed eight solid frames allowing the five hits while striking out 7 Trailblazers.  He was replaced in the ninth by Dillon Clancy who completed the shutout.

Matt Clark was tagged with the loss for MCLA.  He went the first four and 1/3 innings giving up 7 hits and five earned runs.

No Trailblazers had multiple hits in the setback.

MCLA is back on the road tomorrow when they travel to Trinity to take on the Bantams at 3:30.
