Trailblazers cough up lead late in 5-3 loss to Southern Vermont

North Adams, MA- The visiting Southern Vermont Mountaineers scored all five runs in the last four innings to rally past the MCLA Trailblazers 5-3 this afternoon in non conference baseball action.  The Mountaineers improve to 14-17 while MCLA is now 3-21.

MCLA scored first as they plated a run in the third inning for an early 1-0 edge.  Ryan Ouimet singled and scored on Chase Preite's double to left center field.  The Trailblazers ran into a pair of outs in the frame to squander a chance for more runs. 

The Trailblazers would extend to a 2-0 lead scoring an unearned run in the fourth.  Rory Slattery singled and advanced to second on an error to lead off.  He would score on Nate Alibozek's single up the middle. 

Southern Vermont was blanked by MCLA starter Jared Gersch through the first five innings before breaking through with two in the sixth.  RJ Pingitore led off with a single and Cody LaBadia walked chasing Gersch.  Roland Hernandez would single to load the bases without an out off Trailblazer reliever Eamonn Andre.  Ryan Schuette would collect a sac fly plating Pingatore.

Quinten Scott would ground to short and when the double play throw went wide of the mark, LaBadia scored to tie the game at 2.

SVC would collect two more runs to snag the lead in the seventh with the help of some Trailblazer miscues.  With one out, Chris Nicastro reached on an error.  After Pingatore flew out to center, Nicastro would steal second.  LaBadia would plate him with a long double to right and a 3-2 lead.  Another infield error plated LaBadia and the score was 4-2.

MCLA would get a run back in the bottom half but squandered yet another chance to tie the game.  Myles Candelet, who had three hits, and Alon Willing each reached to start the frame putting runners on the corners.  After a strikeout, Ouimet would plate Candelet with a sac fly making it 4-3.  Chase Preite singled putting runners on first and second for Garrett Alibozek.  He ripped a single up the middle, however Sal Sciara gunned down Willing at the plate to keep the tying run off the board.

SVC would add an insurance run in the ninth and bring on Erik Johansen to record the save. 

Dustin Marfyk earned his third win of the season tossing 8 innings, allowing 11 hits and striking out four.

MCLA recieved three hits each from Candelet and Preite.  MCLA outhit SVC 12-9.

Gersch went five plus innings surrendering four hits and four walks.  Andre was saddled with the loss going two innings.

MCLA will host Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon in a twinbill starting at 1pm.
