Baseball falls in non league matchup with Elms 9-3

Holyoke, MA- The Elms College baseball team scored five runs in the third inning and never looked back in a 9-3 victory over the MCLA Trailblazers this evening at McKenzie Field.  With the win, the Blazers improve to 13-18 while MCLA is now 11-13.

Elms' Kyle Platner started the scoring with a two run double in the third to get the offense going.  Brian Hungerford had an RBI walk and when Dan Brunetti's single scored two runs, it was 5-0 and chased MCLA starter Joe Murray.

Elms would add another run in the fourth when Platner doubled to left making it 6-0 and Hungerford reached on a fielders choice which drove in another.  Brunetti added another RBI knock making it 9-0 through six innings.

MCLA would finally get on the scoreboard in the seventh off Elms starter Cody Lemieux.  Darrien Luckett had an RBI single while Ben Durland and Christian Seariac each added RBI's.  The Trailblazers couldn't muster any other offense against Elms pitching however as the Blazers cruised home.

Lemieux got the win allowing just four hits in seven innings of work.  He struck out four MCLA batters.  Platner ended with three hits and 4 RBI to lead the offensive attack.  Brunetti chipped in with two hits and 3 RBI.

Jonathon Parker had two hits to lead MCLA.  Murray took the loss for MCLA going the first 2.1 innings.  Brody Farnum was effective out of the bullpen tossing the final three frames for MCLA.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Saturday when they host Worcester State in a key MASCAC matchup at 1pm.
