Gladu tabbed as the 2017 MASCAC Baseball Coach of the Year

2017 All MASCAC Baseball release

North Adams, MA- MCLA head baseball coach Mike Gladu has been selected by his peers as the 2017 MASCAC Coach of the Year as announced by the league offices this afternoon.  Gladu just wrapped up his second season at the helm of the baseball program.

Bridgewater State's Ryan Feeney was tabbed as the Player of the Year while Framingham State's Kevin Connolly was chosen as the Pitcher of the Year.  Worcester State's Ben Palatino earned the conference's top rookie honor.

Gladu led the Trailblazers back to the MASCAC tournament for the first time since 2009 in 2017.  The Trailblazers went 12-18 overall, but were 6-8 in the MASCAC and entered the tournament as the fifth seed.  MCLA fell to eventual champion Worcester State in the opening round.

Gladu's troops improved upon a 4-25 season in 2016 to grab 12 wins a year later.  He becomes the first Trailblazer baseball coach to win the conference honor since Jeff Puleri did in 2009.  Gladu's team went winless in the MASCAC a season ago, however they knocked off conference finalist Framingham State in the season opening series.

The Trailblazers would go on to earn splits with Westfield State, Fitchburg State, and Mass. Maritime.  MCLA would then earn a key sweep over Bridgewater State, their first over the Bears in over 20 seasons.

Gladu will return a host of key players in 2018 looking to build upon their results and continue to return to conference prominence.
