Baseball wins rain shortened contest with Anna Maria 11-9, LaBonte cracks first career homer

Northboro, MA- The MCLA Baseball team received a three run home run from senior Brett LaBonte and took advantage of some walks as they held off Anna Maria 11-9 this afternoon in a five inning rain shortened tilt held at the New England Baseball Complex.  The Trailblazers improve to 8-5 overall while the Amcats drop to 9-11 on the season.

The game was played under a heavy rain on the turf at NEBC and the Trailblazers started out hot.  They put a run up in the top of the first on LaBonte's sacrifice fly scoring Nick DiSanti for a 1-0 lead.  They would add three more runs in the third courtesy of LaBonte's big blast to left field.  His home run scored Christian Seariac and DiSanti giving MCLA a 4-0 lead.

The Trailblazers would appear to bust things open in the fourth inning erupting for six more runs.  DiSanti squeezed home the first run of the inning and another scored on an error.  After Seariac's sac fly brought home another run, it was 7-0.  DiSanti would eventually come across on a wild pitch and when Joe Toledo singled up the middle scoring Tyler Cowdrey and Jeff Bink, MCLA led by a commanding score of 10-0.

MCLA starter Shawn James ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth however as the Amcats five times and chased him from the game.  AMC were the beneficiaries of five walks and a pair of hit batters in the inning as they sliced the deficit to 10-5.  MCLA would get a run in the top of the fifth when Logan Rumbolt scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-5, but AMC kept fighting back.

In the bottom of the fifth, they would score four more times to get within 11-9.  Once again, AMC took advantage of some Trailblazer wildness off the mound and left the tying run in the batters box.

MCLA extended the lead in the sixth, however the game was called before the inning was completed.

Brandon Condon earned the win out of the MCLA bullpen for the Trailblazers.

Labonte paced the offense with his career best 4 RBI's.  DiSanti had a pair of hits in the contest.

MCLA is scheduled to battle RPI in Troy on Thursday as they continue non league play.
