Baseball drops two to Wisconsin Stevens Point in RussMatt

Auburndale, FL- The MCLA Baseball team dropped a pair of games to Wisconsin Stevens Point this afternoon in the RussMatt Invitational.  The Trailblazers fell in the opener 14-2 before dropping an 8-2 decision in the nightcap.  The Trailblazers are now 4-7 on the season heading into tomorrow's matchup with Lawrence.

Game One- UWSP 14 - MCLA 2

UWSP wasted no time in this one as they scored six times in the opening frame and never looked back.  MCLA starter Tyler Wade surrendered the six runs as the Pointers took advantage of some shotty Trailblazer defense to take the sizable early lead.

UWSP would ultimately put the game away by tallying five more times in the third inning to increase the margin to 11-0 before MCLA finally got on the board.

The Trailblazers scored twice in the fourth inning as Antonio Archina and Dillon Maxon drove home runs for MCLA.

UWSP would hold MCLA scoreless the rest of the way and would cruise to victory.

Wade took the loss for the Trailblazers, who used five different pitchers in the contest.

Game Two- UWSP 8 - MCLA 2

In the nightcap, MCLA took an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning as they took the lead on a Pointer miscue making it 1-0.  The Pointers would finally chase MCLA starter Ryan Ruef in the fourth inning as they turned the deficit into a 4-1 advantage.  

Ruef ended up going 3+ innings and surrendered three runs in absorbing the loss.

UWSP tacked on two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings and would ultimately not be threatened the rest of the way.

UWSP outhit MCLA 10-3 in the contest.

The Pointers improve to 6-2 on the season.
