Baseball drops a pair of MASCAC games to Framingham in the rain
Northborough, MA- The MCLA Baseball team dropped a heart breaking 7-6 decision in game one of a doubleheader with Framingham State 7-6 and the Rams completed the sweep with a convincing 9-2 win in the nightcap in MASCAC action at the New England Baseball Complex. The Rams (9-8) swept the three game series from Trailblazers and are 3-0 in the MASCAC.
MCLA (6-12) is 0-3 in the league.
Game One- FSU 7 - MCLA 6
In the opener, MCLA fell behind as Framingham went ahead 3-0 after two innings of play. The Trailblazers would rally in the third as Jeff Bink's two run single brought the score to 3-2, and when he scored on a Ram miscue, it was tied at 3-3.
Framingham's Kyle Dembrowski led off the bottom of the third with a home run to put the Rams in front, but MCLA starter Brendan Kelly stopped the bleeding and kept the Rams at bay allowing the Trailblazers to take the lead.
In the sixth, Austin Rachiele doubled home two runs to give the visitors a 5-4 advantage. MCLA would tack on another in the seventh when Seariac belted his first career HR to increase the lead to 6-4 before the Rams rallied in the bottom half.
MCLA went to the bullpen and called on Dillon Maxon. He allowed all three batters he faced to reach and when Andrew Curtis scored on a wild pitch, it was 6-5 still in MCLA's favor. The Trailblazers turned to Ryan Ruef to try and escape the jam, but he allowed a Dembrowski RBI hit to tie things up setting the stage for Jonathan Cloutier's heroics.
He would single into left center field and bring home Joe Ambrosino with the game ending run and give the Rams a 7-6 walk off win.
Cloutier ended with three hits and an RBI for the Rams. Dembrowski was a handful as he also added three hits and drove in four runs for the Rams. Al Wallach started for Framingham and went six innings allowing 6 runs. Kevin Scerra earned the win tossing one inning of scoreless relief.
MCLA's Brendan Kelly struck out ten batters in his six innings of work as he got a no decision. Maxon took the loss allowing three runs.
Rachiele ended with a pair of hits and two RBI's to lead the offense while Seariac also collected two hits.
Game Two- FSU 9 - MCLA 2
In the nightcap, FSU jumped on Trailblazer starter Mike Urbanski in the first inning for four runs. Ambrosino delivered the key blow with a three run homer to cap off the inning. Framingham would add another run in the third on Dembrowski's second home run of the day to increase the lead to 5-0.
MCLA got a run back on a Rachiele groundout, but couldn't muster much offense against Framingham starter Kevin Connelly. Connelly earned the win tossing 5.2 innings and struck out six Trailblazers to earn his first win of 2019.
The Rams added three runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth.
MCLA tacked on their second run of the day on Jake Ferrara's single in the sixth.
Aaron Williams had a pair of hits for FSU, who outhit MCLA 7-4 in game two.
Urbanski took the loss going three innings for MCLA. No Trailblazers had more than one hit.
MCLA is back in action on Wednesday when they continue MASCAC play against Westfield State.
