Baseball swept by Fitchburg in MASCAC action

Northborough, MA- The Fitchburg State baseball team received a pair of outstanding pitching performances from Richard Sharp and Tommy Parsons as they handed the MCLA Trailblazers a pair of 10-0 defeats this afternoon in MASCAC action at the New England Baseball Complex.  Fitchburg improves to 13-5 overall and is now 5-0 in the conference.  MCLA falls to 6-15 on the season and is now 0-6 in the MASCAC.

Game 1-

Fitchburg started fast on offense plating a pair of runs in each of the first three frames.  Vincent Eramo homered in the first inning to kick off the scoring against MCLA's Bobby New.  Brandon Lefebvre and Nicholas Cordeau traded RBI doubles to increase the margin to 4-0 after two innings, and when Brennan Cuddahy drilled a two run homer, it was 6-0 in favor of the Falcons.

The rest of the story was Sharp.  He went the distance and allowed just two hits while striking out five Trailblazers in the process.  He improved to 3-1 on the season.

Fitchburg added a solo run in the fourth and then closed out the scoring with three more runs in the sixth of Max Gabrielly.

New took the loss going just 3.1 innings.

Game 2-

Once again, the Falcons started fast.  This time, they got to MCLA's Brendan Kelly.  After  sacrifice fly made it 1-0, Timothy Horton singled home two runs to increase the lead to 3-0.  The Falcons added a solo run in the third on Joshua Macomber's HR and then put the game away with two runs in each of the next three frames.

Meanwhile, Fitchburg starter Tommy Parsons was in cruise control.  He went six innings and scattered just four hits.  He struck out 9 Trailblazers in the process to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Kelly took the loss for MCLA.  Fitchburg outhit the Trailblazers 12-5 in the nightcap.

The two teams will meet in the season finale tomorrow at 2pm at Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams.
