Baseball swept by Lancers 4-0, 5-4

North Adams, MA- The visiting Worcester State baseball team received a pair of complete game pitching performances and Andrew Miller homered in game two to lift the Lancers to a doubleheader sweep of the MCLA Trailblazers this afternoon.  Worcester State took game one 4-0 behind a stellar effort from Sean Mahan.  They would nip the Trailblazers in the nightcap 5-4 as Miller's HR was the key blow.  The Lancers improve to 16-13 overall and are now 8-7 in the league.  The Trailblazers dip to 9-21 overall and are 3-12 in the MASCAC.

Game One: Worcester State 4 – MCLA 0

Worcester State's Sean Mahan tossed a four hit shutout while Jake Breton went 2-3 with two RBI's to lift the Lancers to a 4-0 win in the opening game of the doubleheader.  Worcester State did all their offensive damage in the opening two innings off MCLA starter Bobby New.

In the first inning, Ben Palatino came home on a balk and then Seth Leslie drove in Breton with a single to make it 2-0.  They would add a pair of runs in the second inning with Breton getting the key hit.  He would slice a double into right field that brought home a pair of runs to increase the lead to 4-0.  MCLA escaped further damage when Austin Rachiele made a diving catch in right field to end the frame.

From there, the story was Mahan.  He kept the MCLA offense at bay as he threw just 76 pitches and didn't walk a batter.  He improved to 2-3 on the season with the win.

MCLA's New (4-4) took the loss as he went the distance.  He allowed nine hits and struck out two Lancers.  Rachiele had a pair of hits to pace the MCLA offense.

Game Two: Worcester State 5 – MCLA 4

In the nightcap, the game was scoreless through two innings of play.  In the third, the Lancers took a short lived advantage as Seth Leslie drove home Andrew Miller with a groundout for a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom half of the frame, the Trailblazers scored three times to take the lead.

Jake Ferrara's single scored Dillon Maxon to tie things up at 1-1.  Christian Seariac then sliced a double to left field scoring Ben Durland to put MCLA up 2-1.  They would add another run on a Lancer miscue to take a 3-1 advantage.

The Lancers quickly rebounded though as Miller hit a towering three run homer to left to give WSU the lead back at 4-3 after four innings of play.

MCLA would tie it up once again in the bottom of the fifth as Seariac scampered across via a wild pitch to make it 4-4.  Worcester would ultimately score the deciding run in the sixth inning.

Sam Allen led off with a bunt single and was quickly sacrificed to second base bringing Ben Palatino to the plate.  He grounded out to third, but Allen advanced to third on the play and scored as the throw from Maxon was wide and Allen scored what would be the go ahead run.

Lancer starter Kyle Gray would make it stand as he worked around a base runner in the seventh, but held on to collect the win.  He improved to 5-1 on the season as he scattered nine hits and struck out two Trailblazers.  Miller was 2-4 with 3 RBI's to pace the offense while Allen was 2-2 and reached base all three times.

MCLA's Ferrara, Seariac, and Maxon all had two hits to lead the team.  Brendan Kelly went the distance, but fell to 1-5 on the season.

The Trailblazers are off until Tuesday when they head to Anna Maria for a non league matchup.
