Baseball falls to Westfield in midweek MASCAC tilt 10-2
Westfield, MA-- The Westfield State pitching staff allowed just two hits and the Owl offense rapped out 17 hits as they handled the MCLA Trailblazers 10-2 this afternoon from Hagan Field in MASCAC Baseball action. The Owls improve to 14-11 overall and are now 6-4 in conference play. MCLA drops to 10-16 on the season and is 1-8 in league play.
Max Silverman led the offense going 3-4 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored. Damien Maniscalco, Jake Butler, and Zack Graveline each ended with three hits in the win.
The Owls jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just two innings of play. Silverman started the scoring with a run scoring single in the first. The Owls' Ethan Day added a two run single in the second inning and when Silverman added another RBI knock, it was 5-0 in favor of the Owls.
MCLA scored a run in the third when Austin Rachiele lofted a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. From there the Owls put the game away with a four run fourth inning. Maniscalco started the rally with a two run knock and Graveline ended the inning with an RBI double to right. After four the Owls led 9-1.
Westfield's Ryan Donahue earned the win going a solid six innings. He didn't allow a hit over that span but did walk three batters and struck out 8 Trailblazers. Matt Motyka earned the save by tossing the final three frames.
MCLA's Rob Correia took the loss on the mound for the Trailblazers.
