HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mass. Maritime scored a run in each of the first two innings while their pitching staff kept the Trailblazers hitless into the fifth inning. In that fifth frame, the Trailblazer began their comeback when sophomore outfielder Joe Sardo (Great Neck, NY) led off with a single through the right-side of the infield. Two batters and a stolen base later, sophomore second baseman Jacob Olson (Holden, MA) and Ben Jacob (Pittsfield, MA) worked walks to load the bases. Freshman shortstop Roshan Warriar (Pittsfield, MA) continued the walk parade for MCLA to force home Sardo home with their first run.
  • In the seventh inning the Trailblazers took their first lead of the afternoon when senior third baseman Joshua Bissaillon drove home Warriar and Jacob with a single down the leftfield line. Sardo then added another run with a sac bunt back to the pitcher to score senior outfielder Mattew Castillo (Ozone Park, NY).
  • The Buccaneers responded in the bottom of the frame with a single run to pull back within a run.
  • Junior first baseman Chris Vargas (Queens Village, NY) led off the eighth with his second home run of the season to provide what would turn out to be a much-needed insurance run.
  • Senior pitcher Brady Hamel (Port St. Lucie, FL) picked up his third save of the season, allowing a pair of hits before closing out the game with a strike out and a soft grounder to third.
  • Senior Aidan Brett (Seymour, CT) went six and a third innings, allowing five hits and three runs, two earned, to go with three strikeouts to improve his record to 1-4.
