MCLA men drop MASCAC opener to Worcester 85-71

Box Score

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Men opened the MASCAC season by falling at home to Worcester State by a score of 85-71.  With the loss, the Trailblazers dip to 6-7 while Worcester evens their record at 6-6.  Lancer senior forward Maurice Horton had game highs of 23 points and 17 rebounds in the win.

Horton got the Lancers off to a great start opening the game with two straight buckets.  Worcester owned a commanding edge off the glass in the opening frame and stretched the lead into double figures midway thru the half.  They would take a comfortable lead into the locker room leading 38-24.

MCLA was hindered by 28% shooting in the half compared to 54% for the visitors.

The second half was a much more frenetic pace as both teams tried to get up and down the floor.  Horton continued to build on his big evening converting many fast break opportunites en route to his final numbers.

The Trailblazers could get nothing going as they went 6-24 from three point range, many of which coming in the second half.

MCLA was led by three players in double figures with junior Jon Greenberg (12), senior Mike Perreault (11), and sophomore Chris Harris (10) leading the way.

The Lancers shot a torrid 58% in the game compared to the hosts 35%.  Worcester also finished with a commanding edge on the glass, outrebounding MCLA 50-28.

MCLA will look for their first MASCAC victory of the season on Tuesday when they travel to Salem State.
