Paul nets 21 points, but MCLA falls to Castleton 96-80

Castleton, VT- The host Castleton State Men's basketball team placed all five starters in double figures led by the double double effort of Chad Copeland en route to a 96-80 win over the MCLA Trailblazers in non conference action.  Both teams are now 1-1 on the season.

MCLA was even with the Spartans following a Todd Hunt bucket that tied the game at 15 in the first half. From that point on, the hosts took over.  A 16-3 run moved Castleton out to a 31-18 lead, which eventually grew to 18 before settling on a 46-33 halftime score.

In the second half, the Spartans led by double digits the entire way with the lead balooning to as many as 23 points.  MCLA did have a 10-1 spurt to close within 12 late, but that was as close as they would get.

Copeland was an impressive 13-17 from the floor and notched 10 boards in the win.  He was joined in double figures by Rob Coloutti, Pavin Parrish, Tondi Mushandu, and Carnelious Green.  Mushandu added 7 assists in the win as Castleton notched 22 assists on their 30 made field goals.

MCLA was paced by Khalil Paul's team best 21 points.  He added 8 boards.  Tyriq Rochester added 17 points off the bench while Todd Hunt had 11.  Careem Kirksey added 10 points.

The Trailblazers shot 39% from the floor and committed 14 turnovers.

MCLA is back in action on Tuesday when they battle local rival Williams.
