MCLA Men earns hard fought MASCAC win at Framingham 73-62
Framingham, MA- The MCLA Men's basketball team earned a hard fought MASCAC win over the Framingham State University Rams 73-62 this afternoon. The Trailblazers were paced by Ruben DelRosario's 15 points as they improve to 2-2 in the MASCAC (5-10 overall). The Rams are still in search of their first conference win as they drop to 0-4 in the MASCAC (5-10 overall).
Paul Maurice added 12 points, including four treys. Todd Hunt ended with 11 points for the Trailblazers and Khalil Paul ended with 10.
Daniel Gould led the Rams with a game best 18 points, all from behind the arc. Tim McCarthy chipped in with 11.
Both teams started slowly and eventually MCLA held a 31-28 lead at halftime. The Rams chipped away out of the locker room and eventually took their only lead of the second half on Gould's triple to lead 39-37. From there, MCLA took over. They embarked on a 19-6 spurt to grab an insurmountable 56-45 lead with 6:14 to play.
Paul converted a conventional three point play and Maurice drained a triple to cap off the spurt. Gould immediately cut the deficit to 8 points, however Maurice answered with his fourth of the game to push back to a 59-48 advantage.
The Rams would get within seven points on three occasions, however they couldn't get the key stops when they needed to. A Kraig Page steal and layup on top of a technical foul put MCLA up 67-55 and MCLA was on their way.
MCLA shrugged off the slow start to shoot 47% in the game and committed just 8 turnovers. The Rams shot 47% as well, but were hurt by a 10-19 showing from the free throw line. They also committed 16 turnovers in the loss.
The Trailblazers will continue their road trip with a non conference game at Sage on Tuesday night.
