Men's Basketball falls in season opener to John Jay 91-63

New York, NY- John Jay's Doug Levy tallied 27 points and pulled down 19 rebounds as the Bloodhounds cruised past visiting MCLA 91-63 this evening in the season opener for both teams.  The Bloodhounds are now 1-0 while the Trailblazers suffer their first loss.

Levy was tough to handle against the smaller Trailblazer lineup as he went 12-15 from the floor and controlled the defensive glass with 13 of his rebrounds coming on that end.

Santiago Collado paced the rest of the John Jay scorers with 14 points while Essien Epps added 12.  Romello Ford added 11 points while Kyle LaGuardia ended with 10.

John Jay never trailed in this one and jumped out to an early 8-0 advantage.  With the score at 20-13 in favor of the Bloodhounds, they would outscore MCLA 27-17 to take a commanding 47-30 lead at intermission.  John Jay shot 52% in the half compared to just 30% for the Trailblazers.

MCLA never threatened in the second half as they struggled to stop the Bloodhounds.

John Jay ended with a sizable 54-42 edge in rebounding and finished up shooting at 49%.  Both teams were sloppy with over 20 turnovers.

The Trailblazers were paced by Mike Demartinis' team best 15 point night.  Hayden Bird chipped in with 14 points.

MCLA is back in action next Friday night when they travel to Amherst College and take on Kean (NJ) in the opening round of the Ken Wright Invitational.
