Men's Basketball drops high scoring tilt to Sage 102-88

Troy, NY- Sage College placed five players in double figures as they outran the MCLA men's basketball team 102-88 in a high scoring affair this evening at Kahl Gym.  The Gators improve to 2-3 on the season while MCLA drops to 1-4 overall.

Sage never trailed in this one as they jumped on top of MCLA 20-8 early on.  The visitors would increase the margin to as many as 15 points on numerous occasions before settling on a 49-38 halftime edge after Trailblazer Ki-Shawn Monroe drilled a three with just three seconds left.

In the second half, Sage saw the lead trimmed to 49-44 out of the locker room, but then answered with a 10-1 surge to regain the double digit edge at 59-45.  Sage would lead by as many as twenty six points at 85-59, and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way.

Sage was led by Isaiah Scurry's team best 16 point night off the bench.  He was 6-10 from the floor.  Chris Kidd, Joshua Gonzalez, and Darius Denmark each ended with 13 points for the Gators.  Gonzalez controlled the glass with 14 rebounds to complete the double double.  Frane Larose chipped in with 10 points.

The Gators shot 48% from the floor and overcame 24 turnovers in the win.

MCLA was paced by Antoine Montgomery's game high 18 point night.  He was 7-13 from the floor.  Monroe ended with 16 points while Joaquin Scullark added 13 points and 9 rebounds.  Hayden Bird collected a double double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while Gerald Herbert came off the bench to notch 10 points.

The Trailblazers are back in action Saturday when they head to Hartford, CT to battle the University of St. Joseph Bluejays, led by hall of fame coach Jim Calhoun.
