Men's Basketball falters late in 75-64 loss to Bears

Bridgewater, MA- Host Bridgewater State placed four players in double figures led by Ryan Carney's game best 23 point effort in leading the Bears past the MCLA Trailblazers 75-64 in MASCAC action inside the Tinsley Center.  The Bears sweep the season series as they improve to 6-13 overall but are now 4-3 in the conference.

MCLA dips to 5-15 overall and is 1-7 in the league.

The game was knotted up at 28 at halftime and neither team could create separation for much of the closing half.  With the score at 54-53 in favor of BSU, the Bears rattled off an 8-0 spurt to take control.  Admar Jaramillo started the run with a three pointer from the right wing and then Dimitri St. Louis scored five straight points to give the Bears a 62-53 lead with just 3:57 left.

MCLA's Gerald Herbert slowed the run with a triple from the top of the key to close within six, but Rayshon Ward converted a Ryan Carney feed to keep the Trailblazers at bay.  Jaramillo's acrobatic three point play with 1:41 left to play stretched the lead to double digits and the Trailblazers wouldn't get any closer than seven the rest of the way.

Carney was 8-19 shooting for his 23 point night.  He canned three shots from beyond the arc.  Ward ended with just 12 points, but he controlled the glass to the tune of 21 rebounds for the Bears.  Nick Crocker was effective inside scoring 16 points and finishing his own double double with 11 boards.  St. Louis ended with 13 points.

The Bears overcame a tough shooting first half, but ended at 41%.  They overcame 19 turnovers in the win.

Mike Demartinis continued his strong play for MCLA ending with 19 points and 5 rebounds.  He was the only Trailblazer in double figures.  Antoine Montgomery and Hayden Bird added 9 points each.

MCLA shot just 35% in the loss.

The Trailblazers will host Worcester State on Saturday at 3pm.
