Golf wraps up season at the MASCAC Championships

Sutton, MA --- Senior medalist David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) handed in a card of 76 (+4) to earn medalist accolades to help lead Worcester State to the 2015 MASCAC Men's Golf Championship this afternoon at the par 72 Blackstone National Golf Course.

With a team score of 324 (+36), the Lancers edged Salem State by four strokes (328) to earn their first conference title since the fall of 1984 and their third overall. Westfield State was nine off the lead with 333 and MCLA rounded out the field with 383.

Others who helped lead the Blue and Gold to the top spot included junior Jackson Davis (Spencer, MA) and freshmanEddie Peladeau (Acushnet, MA), who both equaled second place with a 79 (+7).

The second-place Vikings were underscored by Cameron Daley (Duxbury, MA), junior Cam Moniz (Seekonk, MA), senior Connor McDonagh-Poh (Holden, MA) and Tom MacPherson (Jefferson, MA) who fired fifth (80, +8), sixth (81, +9), seventh (82, +10) and tied for tenth (85, +13), respectively. 

Freshman Mike Sarkus (E. Longmeadow, MA) impressed for the Owls as he tied second place with a 79 (+7) to highlight Westfield State. Sophomore Patrick O'Neil (Westford, MA) notched ninth while Tyler Beaudry (S. Hadley, MA)  and junior Derek Doiron (Leominster, MA) shared tenth (85, +13).

Freshman Nick Young (Ballston Lake, NY) fired an 83 in eighth place to pace the Trailblazers.

Rixham is first medalist since All-American Bob Bruso shared the accolade with Jeff Santora of Salem State in the 2009-10 season.

 Since the tournament restarted in 2009-10, the Vikings had won five out of the last six championships and Westfield State earned the 2012-13 crown.
