Men's Soccer drops non league tilt with Skidmore 3-1
North Adams, MA- The visiting Skidmore College Men's Soccer team scored a pair of goals just one minute apart late in the second half to pull away from the MCLA Trailblazers 3-1 this afternoon at Shewcraft Field. With the win, the Thoroughbreds improve to 5-3-1 while MCLA drops to 4-3.
Skidmore held a 1-0 lead at halftime on the heels of Robby Smukler's goal in the 23rd minute. The Trailblazers would score the equalizer when Kwadwo Kusi would counter. Kusi stole the ball from a Skidmore defender and broke in all alone against keeper Eli Kisselbach. His shot beat him to the lower left corner tying the match at 1-1.
MCLA had some chances to take the lead, however they couldn't convert. Skidmore finally broke through in the 74th minute when Tim Sullivan collected a loose ball in front of the Trailblazer net and easily poked it past Matt Robinson putting Skidmore up 2-1.
The back breaker came just 81 seconds later when Smukler took a pass on the left wing and lofted a shot from about 25 yards out. MCLA's Robinson thought the ball was going to be headed towards the net, however he misjudged the ball and Skidmore led 3-1 with just 14 minutes remaining. MCLA would never really threaten the rest of the match.
Kisselbach stopped 8 shots for Skidmore to earn his fourth win of the season. Robinson tallied seven saves in defeat.
Skidmore held a narrow 19-18 shot advantage and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.
MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Salem State to resume MASCAC action.
