Men's Soccer notches first win of 2016 with 2-0 shutout at Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The MCLA Men's Soccer team received goals from seniors Anthony Basile and Dylan Pereira as they defeated the Becker Hawks 2-0 on the road.   The Trailblazers of MCLA improve to 1-1 on their season while the Hawks of Becker open at 0-2.

MCLA outshot Becker, 24-4, with an 8-3 edge in corner kicks 

The first half saw the stalemate broken in the 17th minute when MCLA senior forward Basile (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) blasted a shot from 30 yards out and into the back of the net for his first goal of the year. The score remained 1-0 headed into halftime.

The second half saw an increase in physical play as both teams fought for field position. The Trailblazers broke through again in the 58th minute with a goal from senior forward Dylan Pereira (Ludlow, Mass. / Ludlow), assisted by junior midfielder Oscar Castro (Middle Island, N.Y. / Longwood Senior).  

Becker sophomore goalkeeper Devin Ramos (Warwick, R.I. / Pilgrim), who entered the day ranked second in the NECC in saves per game, recorded 12 stops in net. MCLA junior goalkeeper Kamron Anderson (Springfield, Mass. / Springfield Central) finished with two saves.

Becker will be back on the field on Wednesday when they travel to Pine Manor College for a 3:30 p.m. MCLA hosts Western Connecticut State on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
