Trailblazers draw with Mustangs in opener of Fall Soccer Classic

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Men's Soccer team and the visiting Morrisville State Mustangs played to a scoreless double overtime draw this afternoon at Shewcraft field in the opening game of the Trailblazer Fall Classic.  Both teams remain in search of their first win of the season with MCLA now 0-2-1 while the Mustangs are now 0-1-1.

Both teams will be in action again tomorrow with Morrisville battling Union (NY) at noon.  MCLA will challenge Western Connecticut State in the nightcap at 2:30pm.

Each team had chances in the opening half of play but neither could break the ice.  Junior Florent had a great chance but his header went off the crossbar in the 28th minute.  MCLA held an 8-5 shot advantage in the opening forty five minutes, but that would change for the remainder of the contest.

From that point on, Morrisville controlled the stat sheet.  The Mustangs outshot MCLA 22-4 over the final 65 minutes of play, but Trailblazer keeper Sean Bradshaw had his best game of the early season.  The netminder collected 11 saves on the afternoon.

While the Mustangs had plenty of chances, their best came in overtime.  Toyi Hakizimana ripped a shot in the 92nd minute that hit the crossbar and then late in OT, Teo Chavez had an open net off a cross but his shot went wide.  Morrisville outshot MCLA 8-1 in the overtime frames.

Neither team threatened in the second OT session.

Cody Welkley stopped five shots in goal for Morrisville State.  Hakizimana took seven shots to pace the offense while Chavez added four chances.

Will Walkley led MCLA with six shot attempts.

MCLA did hold a slim 9-6 edge in corner kicks.
