Tennis swept at home by Castleton 9-0

North Adams, MA- The visiting Castleton State Spartans Men's Tennis team swept past the MCLA Trailblazers 9-0 in the NAC finale for both teams.  The Spartans are now 10-3 on the season and finish 4-2 in NAC play.  MCLA is now 3-6 and 3-3 in the conference.

Both programs will compete in next week's NAC postseason tournament as the Spartans are the third seed while MCLA is the fourth seed.

Castleton didn't take long to take command of this one.  The Spartans would sweep the doubles matches as Seth Marcil and Andrew Overton won 8-4 over Rob Wabshinak and Aaron Goldsmith in the top slot.  Soren Pelz Walsh and Quentin Barthe defeated Michael Rooney and Richard LaRocque 8-0 in the second doubles, while Ryan Mulder and Trevor Hanna handled Jeff Mason and Jared Freeman 8-2 to wrap up the doubles pairings.

In the singles matches, the Spartans won them all in straight sets.  Marcil beat Goldsmith 6-3, 6-4 in the top slot, while Pelz-Walsh handled Wabshinak 7-5, 6-1.  Castleton's Barthe, Overton, and Mulder dropped only one game in cruising to wins in the third, fourth, and fifth slots.  Tyler Wilcox would win over Jared Freeman 1-6, 6-1, 10-5 (tiebreak) to close out play.

MCLA will challenge Sage College on Tuesday before taking on top seed Colby Sawyer in the NAC semifinals this weekend.
