Men's Tennis rolls past Sage 9-0 to wrap up regular season schedule

Schenectady, NY- The MCLA Men's Tennis team tuned up for this weekend's NAC semifinals by handing the Sage Gators a 9-0 defeat in a match played indoors at Sports Time Tennis in Schenectady, NY.  MCLA is now 4-6 as they prepare for their first ever appearance in the NAC postseason tournament on Saturday when they challenge top seed Colby Sawyer in a match held at Castleton University.

MCLA didn't take long to secure the victory over the Gators.  The Trailblazers swept through the doubles matches quite handily.  Michael Rooney and Rich LaRocque earned an 8-3 win in the top slot, while Jeff Mason and Jared Freeman won 8-1 in the second doubles match.  The duo of Robert Gair and Jack Peterson won 8-2 in the third doubles match to sweep the Gators.

In singles, MCLA wouldn't be challenged.  Aaron Goldsmith cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the top slot while Rob Wabshinak didn't drop a game winning 6-0, 6-0 in the second match.  Rooney would earn his second point of the match in hard fought fashion 6-7, 6-2, 10-4.  LaRocque won 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth singles slot while Mason and Freeman cruised to complete the shutout.

MCLA will appear in this weekend's NAC semifinals as the fourth seed.  They will challenge the top seeded Chargers who earlier this season defeated the Trailblazers.  All NAC tournament matches are being held at Castleton this Saturday with the finals set for an hour after the semifinals are completed.
