Tennis falls in NAC Semifinals to top seeded Colby Sawyer

Castleton, VT- Colby-Sawyer clinched its spot in the North Atlantic Conference East Division Championship this afternoon with a 9-0 victory in the semifinal round over the fourth-seeded MCLA Trailblazers.

The Chargers dropped just five points in doubles play and notched six straight-sets singles victories to secure their spot in the final for the fifth straight season. The Trailblazers, meanwhile, finished their season at 4-7 overall.

Ryan Sawyer and Dean Boodakian teamed up in the top-flight doubles match, capturing a perfect 8-0 win over Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak. The tandem of Alex Wright and Ross Kenney claimed an 8-2 win in second doubles, while Andrew Peloquin and Shawn Bissonette gave Colby-Sawyer a 3-0 lead with an 8-3 victory in the third-flight.

The Chargers maintained that momentum into singles, as Wright opened play with a perfect, 6-0, 6-0 win in the top-flight. Sawyer took the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-2 to put the top seed in front 5-0 and clinch the win, followed by straight-sets victories in the No. 3-6 matches by Kenney, Ryan Broderick and Peloquin.

The appearance in the NAC semifinals were the first for MCLA since they joined the NAC back in 2014.

Colby Sawyer went on to capture the league title defeating the host Spartans 5-0 later in the afternoon.
