Men's Tennis falls in season opener to Colby Sawyer 9-0

Bennington, VT- The MCLA Men's tennis program fell this afternoon to reigning North Atlantic Conference (NAC) champion Colby Sawyer 9-0 in a match played at the Bennington Tennis Center in Bennington, VT.  The match was the conference opener for both teams as Colby Sawyer is now 5-9 (1-0 NAC) while it was also the season opener for the Trailblazers (0-1).

The Chargers easily swept through the three doubles matches.  They won by identical 8-1 scores in the pro style sets.  The top duo of Gustav Jigrup and Alex Wright took care of Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak.  Ryan Sawyer and Dean Boodakian defeated Andrew Nygard and Michael Rooney, while Cameron Lynch and Andrew Peloquin handled Jeffrey Mason and Jared Freeman.

In singles, CSC continued to hold serve.  Jigrup defeated Goldsmith 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles slot, while Wright took care of Wabshinak by the same score.  Sawyer would earn his second point of the day winning 6-2, 6-0 over Nygard, while Ryan Broderick, Matt Burke, and Michael White all won in straight sets to close out the scoring.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Thursday when they head to Rhode Island College for a 3:30pm match.  The Chargers will be off all week and return to action on Sunday against Johnson State.
