Men's Tennis falls at RIC 6-3 in non conference action

Providence, RI- The Rhode Island College men's tennis program took the last four singles matches to earn a hard fought 6-3 win over the MCLA Trailblazers this afternoon in non conference action.  With the win, the Anchormen improve to 3-5 and MCLA drops to 1-3 on the season.

RIC took a pair of doubles matches to lead 2-1 heading into singles play.  The top duo of William Tavares and Lee Tiberi defeated Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak 8-2 to claim the first match point.  Matt Gambardell and Alan Esposito cruised past Robert Gair and Jared Freeman 8-1 for RIC's second point.

MCLA got on the board when Andrew Nygard and Jeffrey Mason claimed an 8-5 victory over Chandler Scott and Cory Duquette making it 2-1 after doubles.

Goldsmith and Wabshinak each claimed a point in the top two singles matches for MCLA.  Goldsmith defeated Tavares 6-2, 6-1 for his point while Wabshinak handled Scott 7-5, 7-5 for his.  RIC however, rebounded with four straight points to earn the win.

The match turned in the third singles slot where Tiberi earned his second point of the day closing out Nygard 6-3, 4-6, and 10-0 in the playoff.  Gambardella, Esposito, and Jonathan Glendinning all won in straight sets for the Anchormen.

MCLA is back in action tomorrow when they head up to Castleton University continuing NAC play.
