Tennis cruises past Johnson State 8-1 in NAC action
North Adams, MA- The MCLA Men's Tennis program picked up a convincing 8-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over the Johnson State Badgers this afternoon at the Zavattaro complex. The Trailblazers improve to 2-4 on the season and are 2-3 in NAC play while JSC falls to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The Trailblazers swept the doubles action to gain the early advantage. Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak won 8-2 over Gerrit Lane and Richard Perez for an early point. Jared Freeman and Andrew Nygard squeaked out a point defeating Alex Harcourt and Benjamin Holl 8-6 in the second slot, while Robert Gair and Jeffrey Mason won 8-1 to close out the scoring heading into singles play.
MCLA kept the momentum going as Goldsmith and Wabshinak cruised to their second points of the day. Goldsmith handled Lane dropping just a single game while Wabshinak was flawless in his 6-0, 6-0 win. Nygard defeated Perez 6-2, 6-3 for his second point of the match while Mason and Jack Peterson earned singles win as well.
Matthew Fogg defeated Robert Gair in three sets 6-4, 6-7, 17-15 (tiebreak) for the lone point for the Badgers.
The Trailblazers will look to win their second straight on Tuesday when they host Sage at the athletics complex.
