Men's Cross Country voted sixth in Preseason poll

2015 MASCAC Men's Cross Country Poll

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Men's Cross Country program was selected to finish sixth following a league wide vote of coaches as announced by the MASCAC office this afternoon.  The Trailblazers will begin a new era as Rob Colantuono takes over as head coach in 2015.

The Westfield State Owls have been selected to win their third straight MASCAC Men's Cross Country Championship as voted on by the seven coaches from around the league.

Westfield State received six of the seven first place votes for 36 points. During the 2014 MASCAC Championship, the Owls's Mike Skelly and Chris Williams finished third and fourth while six Owls were in the top 10 overall to claim the team title.

Earning the final first place vote in second is Fitchburg State with 28 points. Jake Hastings is back for the Falcons. He was the MASCAC Rookie of the Year during the 2014 meet after finishing second and was the top rookie finisher.

Bridgewater State lands in third with 26 points. The Bears finished second in last season's meet. Andy Sukeforth was the MASCAC Runner of the Year after crossing the line first overall.

Worcester State and Massachusetts Maritime were voted in the fourth and fifth slot with 22 and 14 points, respectively. The Lancers placed fourth last year with Brady Phillips as their top runner in sixth place to earn All-Conference honors. The Buccaneers were fifth in the 2014 meet with James MacVarish as their top finisher in 16th place.

Rounding out the 2015 poll is MCLA with 11 points and Framingham State with 10 points in sixth and seventh, respectively. Brendon Peltier was the first Trailblazer to cross the line in 41st place. For the Rams, Dan Stevens paced the team with a 51st place showing.

The cross country season begins on September 5 when six of the seven MASCAC schools will begin their 2015 year.
