Softball falls to Lasell in late night action from Florida 5-4

Leesburg, FL- The Lasell College softball team scored an unearned run in the sixth inning and then held off the Trailblazers in the home seventh to secure a 5-4 win over MCLA last night in Leesburg, FL.  The Lasers improve to 3-7 while MCLA is still in search of their first win as they sit at 0-6.

Lasell pushed across two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.  Laura MacLeod had an RBI single in the third while another scored on a wild pitch.  Victoria Spellman had an RBI knock in the fourth inning for Lasell.

The Trailblazers would score three unearned runs in the fifth to tie it up at 3-3.  Kayla Baker had a two run single scoring Kara Adams and Erika Quackenbush, and when Kaitlyn Berghela doubled, it was 3-3 heading to the bottom half.  Lasell would push across a run on a Trailblazer error, and MCLA benefitted from a Lasell miscue in the sixth to tie it again at 4-4.  Alex Romano drove in Nevada Nelsen with the tying run.

Lasell would ultimately go ahead for good in the bottom of the sixth as they got a double from Arianna Genovese who later came around to score on a dropped fly ball with two outs.

The Trailblazers wouldn't go quietly as Quackenbush led off the seventh with a double, however she was erased on a fielders choice.  Morgan Watson then lined out to first base to end the contest and give Lasell the win.

Nichole Arcese went the distance and allowed 9 hits and struck out four.  The Lasers had 6 hits in the contest.

Adams took the loss for MCLA going 5.1 innings and allowing 5 runs, but just three earned.  She scattered five hits and had three strikeouts, but was hurt by seven walks.  Baker and Chelsea Coleman each had two hits for the Trailblazers.

MCLA is off today and will return to the diamond tomorrow when they challenge Wesleyan (CT) and Buena Vista starting at 9am.
