Softball concludes Florida trip with pair of losses to Bowdoin and Lawrence

Clermont, FL- The MCLA softball team concluded their Florida trip this afternoon in Clermont, FL. falling to Bowdoin 3-2 in the opener before suffering a 10-4 setback to Lawrence University.  The Trailblazers end the trip still in search of their first win as they are 0-10.

In the opener against the Polar Bears, Bowdoin jumped in front 2-0 with a pair of runs off MCLA starter Morgan Watson in the second inning.  MCLA would get a run back in the fourth inning on Alex Romano's bunt to make it 2-1 in favor of Bowdoin.  The Polar Bears would add another run in the bottom half of the inning to snag a 3-1 lead, but then they would have to hang on against the Trailblazers.

MCLA rallied for a run in the top of the seventh as Kayla Baker drove home Kaitlyn Berghela to make it 3-2.  With a runner in scoring position, Bowdoin was able to get Erika Quackenbush on a pop up to end the game.

Baker ended with a pair of hits to lead the offense while Watson absorbed the loss tossing the first three frames.  Katelyn Henault tossed three scoreless innings of relief for the Trailblazers.

In the nightcap against Lawrence, MCLA led 3-1 after batting in the top of the third inning.  Quackenbush and Alex Romano had RBI singles whiile Chelsea Coleman had an RBI groundout to highlight the frame.

Lawrence would immediately answer scoring five times in the bottom of the third inning to seize control.  They would have four hits and benefit from a Trailblazer error to take a 6-3 lead into the fourth.  MCLA got another run on Berghela's RBI knock, but they were silenced the rest of the way as Lawrence extended the lead.

Lawrence added a run in the fourth but then put the game away with three more runs against the Trailblazer bullpen in the sixth to make it 10-4.  MCLA would go quietly the rest of the way.

Ashley Wilson and Berghela each had two hits to lead the offense.  Kara Adams absorbed the loss going the first 2.2 innings.

MCLA is off until next week when they are scheduled to face Lyndon State.
