Trailblazers softball swept by Williams College 9-0 and 9-2

North Adams, MA- The Williams College softball team swept a doubleheader from the MCLA Trailblazers this afternoon taking game one 9-0 in five innings and winning the nightcap 9-2.  With the sweep, the Ephs are now 18-9 on the season while MCLA drops to 2-20.

Game One-

Williams' Brooke Bovier took a no hitter into the fifth inning.  She was one out away from the no hitter until Morgan Watson singled to center field.  She finished with a two hitter and struck out three Trailblazers to earn her first win of 2017.

The Ephs scored a single run in the second inning to jump out in front 1-0.  Allison Michalik singled to right field driving in Alejandro Magana for the early run.  Williams would add two more runs in the third inning as Lexi Curt and Rebecca Duncan drove in runs to stake the Ephs to a 3-0 lead. 

Williams scored an unearned run in the fourth and got more breathing room in the fifth as they blew the game open.  Brenna Martinez singled home Mackenzie Murphy to make it 5-0.  Casey Pelz followed with a long two run home run to center field making it 7-0 for the Ephs.  Kristina Alvarado followed with an RBI double making it 8-0.  An RBI groundout from Ashley Conroy rounded out the scoring.

Watson took the loss for MCLA throwing the first 4.1 innings and giving up eight runs. 

Williams pounded out 11 hits in the win as Magana and Michalik each ended with a pair of hits.  Magana also scored three times.

Game Two-

Williams scored four times in the second inning to seize early control.  Alvarado had an RBI groundout to start the scoring and then Jessica Kim had an infield single for another run.  Lexi Curt followed with a line drive over the left field fence for a two run homer staking the Ephs to a 4-0 lead.

The Trailblazers got a pair of runs back in the third inning as Katelyn Berghela scored on a wild pitch after walking for MCLA's first run.  Then, Chelsea Coleman singled and Kayla Baker came around to score as the left fielder bobbled the ball making it 4-2.  Williams escaped further damage getting a strikeout and a groundout to end the frame.

MCLA had a golden chance to get closer in the fourth inning as they put two runners in scoring position with just one out.  Williams summoned Mackenzie Murphy from the bullpen to pitch and the righty calmly got a groundout and strikeout to end the frame and keep the lead at 4-2.

Williams extended the lead in the fifth when Murphy helped her own cause with a run scoring double into left field making it 5-2.  Murphy would eventually score on a wild pitch and then Emma Corbett would single scoring another making it 7-2. 

Murphy was outstanding in earning the win out of the bullpen.  She allowed one hit and struck out five in her 3.2 innings of work to improve to 6-4 on the season.  She added three hits to pace the 12 hit Williams attack.

Chelsea Coleman had a nice game for MCLA going a perfect 3-3.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Monday when they take on Mass. Maritime at 1pm.  Williams will host Tufts on Monday as well.
