Watson, Coleman highlight MCLA's game one win over SVC in Softball

Bennington, VT- Morgan Watson went 4-4 and tossed a complete game while Chelsea Coleman went 3-4 with a home run and four RBI's in leading the MCLA softball team to a convincing 14-1 five inning win over Southern Vermont this afternoon in non conference action.  With the win, MCLA improves to 5-20 while the Mountaineers drop to 4-13.

Game two was rained out.

MCLA led 2-1 after an inning of play as Erika Quackenbush drove home Kayla Baker with the games first run.  Alex Romano would single in Quackenbush for the second run and MCLA wouldn't look back.  

They tacked on five more runs in the second inning as they took advantage of some SVC miscues and Coleman delivered an RBI double to make it 7-1.  After going quietly in the third, MCLA erupted for three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to earn the mercy rule victory.

In the fourth, Coleman singled in another run and Watson doubled to right driving in a run to highlight the frame.  The fifth was punctuated by Coleman who drilled a ball over the center field wall for her first HR of the season. 

Watson did the rest limiting SVC to just one hit with 8 strikeouts.  She walked five in goint the distance as she improves to 3-9.

The Trailblazers belted out 17 hits in the win as Baker ended with three hits as well.  Quackenbush and Romano each ended with two for MCLA.

MCLA will head to Bridgewater State on Saturday in a MASCAC twinbill set for 1pm.
