MCLA women rout Vermont Tech 69-37, Clawson named All tournament team

Northfield, VT- The MCLA Women's Basketball team broke open a close game in the latter stages of the first half, then cruised past Vermont Tech 69-37 in the Ed Hockenbury Classic hosted by Norwich University this afternoon.  The Trailblazers snap a two game skid and are now 4-3 on the season.  VT falls to 2-5 overall.

Ashley Clawson was named to the All Tournament team as she led MCLA with 15 points in the win.  Brayleigh Hanlon and Courtney McLaughlin each added 10 points.

The first half got off to a slow start for MCLA and they eventually built a modest lead over Vermont.  With the score at 23-17 in favor of the Trailblazers, MCLA would rattle off a 9-2 run over the final 2:58 to grab a 32-19 lead at halftime.  

MCLA continued the spurt to begin the second half outscoring VT 10-1 to open up an insurmountable 44-20 lead with fifteen minutes remaining.  The lead would grow to as many as 35 points and the Trailblazers were never threatened.

MCLA shot 44% from the field and committed 20 turnovers in the contest.

VT was doomed by 31 turnovers on the afternoon and shot just 33%.

The Trailblazers will battle Mount Holyoke in non league action on Tuesday night.
