Women's Basketball drops MASCAC tilt at Fitchburg 66-47

Fitchburg, MA- The Fitchburg State women's basketball team forced 33 turnovers and held MCLA to just 28% shooting as they handed the Trailblazers a 66-47 setback in MASCAC action this evening.  The Falcons received a game high 15 points from Rebecca Fluet in moving to 8-4 overall and evening their conference slate at 1-1.  MCLA drops their third straight MASCAC (0-3) game and are 6-8 overall.

The Trailblazers held the lead early on and after Ashley Clawson's jumper, they led 7-6.  The Falcons would immediately respond by going on a 16-0 run to seize control as they now led 22-7 with 8:20 left until halftime.  Megan Wodzinski scored eight points in the pivotal stretch to propel the Falcons. 

The lead would grow to as many as 19 points in the half after Laura Cote made a pair from the line making it 37-18 in favor of Fitchburg.  They would eventually settle on a 39-20 halftime score.

MCLA would cut the lead to fourteen points (49-35) on Anna Despart's triple with 12:02 remaining, however the Falcons once again responded.  Fitchburg would outscore MCLA 13-7 over the next five minutes to push out to a 62-42 lead and cruise home from there.

The Falcons were paced by Fluet's 15 points on 5-11 shooting.  She added four rebounds and three assists.  Wodzinski went 5-12 in collecting her 12 points.  Laura Cote ended with 9 points and 6 steals for Fitchburg.  

For the Trailblazers, they were led by Kayla Hotaling's 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Despart scored a season best 9 points, while Courtney Durivage snagged 12 rebounds for MCLA.

The Trailblazers will look to break their three game slide on Saturday when they travel to Framingham State.
