Turnovers costly as Women's basketball falls to Bridgewater 57-36

Bridgewater, MA- Bridgewater State's Chanelle Melton scored a game high 21 points in leading the Bears past the MCLA women's basketball team 57-36 this afternoon at the Tinsley Center in MASCAC action.  The Bears improve to 12-7 overall (6-1 MASCAC), while the Trailblazers drops to 7-12 overall (1-6 MASCAC).

The Bears forced MCLA into 27 turnovers on the afternoon as they pulled away for the convincing victory.  

In the opening half, MCLA trailed just 18-17 following a three pointer from Courtney McLaughlin with 7:03 left til halfime.  From there, Bridgewater would outscore MCLA 16-2 to close the half heading into the locker room with a 34-19 lead.  

The Trailblazers did mount a charge in the second half as they cut the lead to 42-31 following a 7-0 spurt with 7:51 left to play.  Any thoughts of completing the comeback were quickly derailed as the hosts immediately responded with a 12-0 run to go up 54-31 with just over two minutes left to play.  

Melton went 9-13 from the floor for her 21 points.  Megan Boutilette filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 12 boards, 7 steals, and 3 assists.  The Bears shot 40% from the floor as they swept the season series from MCLA.

Brayleigh Hanlon led MCLA with 9 points, while Courtney Durivage ended with 7 points and 5 rebounds.  MCLA shot 35% from the floor.

The Trailblazers will travel to Worcester State on Tuesday night with tip off scheduled for 5:30pm.
