Falcons pull away from Trailblazers in women's basketball 65-46

North Adams, MA- The visiting Fitchburg State women's basketball team placed five players in the double figures as they pushed past the MCLA Trailblazers 65-46 this afternoon .   The Falcons to 12-8 overall and are 4-5 in the MASCAC, while the Trailblazers are now 7-14 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

Rebecca Fluet led the Falcons with a total of 15 points followed by Megan Wodzinski with 14.  Laura Cote chipped in with 12, while Britney Payne and Kristen Enright finished with 11 and 10 respectively.

With the half time score in favor for the Falcons at 32-24, Fitchburg scored five straight points out of the locker room which put them ahead by 13 at 37-23. The Trailblazers cut the deficit to eight at 17:17, but a layup from Fluet started an eight point run to push the Falcons ahead by 16 at 45-29 with 13:29 left of the game.  MCLA  got within 10 on a layup from Courtney McLaughlin at 54-44 with 3:18 left, however the Falcons answered with four straight to put the game away.

In the first half, Fitchburg led much of the way as the Trailblazers went 8-27 from the floor.  With 14:38 left in the half, Megan Wodzinski was able to push the Falcons ahead by six. The Trailblazers tried to run, making the game tying the game 13-13 at 12:07 and again at 9:41 with a score 17-17. The Falcons reacted with a six point spurt, making the score 23-17.  Turnovers and errors cost MCLA in the first half, as they committed 15 as Fitchburg took a 32-24 lead into the locker room.

Payne ended with 9 rebounds to lead the Falcons.  Cote was just 3-16 from the floor, however she ended with 7 rebounds and a game best 7 assists.  The Falcons shot a solid 44% from the floor and forced MCLA into 24 turnovers.

Courtney Durivage paced MCLA with 12 points, while Courtney McLaughlin ended with 10.  Kayla Hotaling grabbed a game best 13 rebounds.  MCLA shot just 28%.

The MCLA Trailblazers are back in action Tuesday, February 10 at 5:30 pm as they host MASCAC rival Framingham State, while the Fitchburg Falcons look to play at home against Anna Maria College Thursday February 12 at 7 pm.
