Women's Basketball drops non league tilt with Suffolk 58-42

North Adams, MA- The visiting Suffolk University Women's basketball team received a game high 20 point effort from Shelby Santini in leading the Rams past MCLA 58-42 in a non league contest.  The Rams improve to 9-12 on the season while the Trailblazer drop to 7-16 overall.

Three Suffolk players finished in double digits led by Santini.  Iliana Quadri ended with 12 and Alexandra Nagri chipped in with 11.

Right away, the Rams took control of the second half. MCLA was able to bring the lead down by two with a shot from Ashley Clawson but soon after Suffolk went on an 8-0 run, making the score 43-33 in 10:11. The Rams would go on to a 19-5 run to seize control ofthe game. Santini led the run by contributing ten points.

Suffolk started the game with a quick jumper to gain the lead, but both teams would battle throughout the half. The teams would trade the lead ten times and the half featured four ties. It was not until the end of the half, when the Rams were able to string together a 10-2 spurt to turn a 21-19 deficit into a 29-23 lead.  Neither team would score over the final two minutes, and that remained the halftime score.

MCLA shot 27 percent for the first half while Suffolk shot for 39 percent. Kayla Hotaling and Courtney McLaughlin both led the Trailblazers in points, each have six. Hotaling also led in rebounds, with eight for the half.

Alexandra Nagri led the Rams with a total of nine points followed by Iliana Quadri with eight points.

Ending the game,Hotaling totaled 11 point, McLaughlin followed with ten and Brayleigh Hanlon had 9. Hotaling also finished with 12 rebounds while Clawson contributed eight. 

The trailblazers struggled offensely finishing with a 29 percent shooting average while Suffolk pulled ahead with 39 percent. MCLA also had a total of 20 turnovers for game and Suffolk finished with 14. 

The Trailblazers are back on the road Tuesday as they take on MASCAC leader, Westfield State while Suffolk looks to battle against Norwich Saturday.
