Women's Basketball drops non conference road game at Utica 66-52

Utica, NY- The Utica College women's basketball program placed three players in double figures as the Pioneers pulled away from visiting MCLA 66-52 in non conference action Wednesday night.  With the win, the Pioneers improve to 2-3 while the Trailblazers even their mark at 3-3.

Ashelyne Babb and Ashley Mayo each tallied 15 points while Rachel Hunter added 11 points for Utica in the win.  The Pioneers owned a commanding 43-28 edge off the glass.

Utica led 24-16 after one period and then MCLA rallied to slice the gap in the second quarter, however the hosts would score the final five points of the half to take a 37-27 lead into the locker room.

The Pioneers would maintain their lead for most of the third quarter until MCLA made a run.  A three pointer from McKenzie Robinson cut the margin to just 41-38, but UC would answer with a 10-2 spurt to go ahead 51-40.  The spurt was culminated by a four point play from Mayo.  Traillblazer Kayla Hotaling answered with a conventional three point play to close the third quarter, however Utica held a 51-43 lead.

They would extend the lead to as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter and were never threatened down the stretch.

Hotaling ended with 15 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Trailblazers.  She was 7-12 from the floor.  Courtney McLaughlin added 12 points in the setback, but was just 3-11 shooting.  MCLA committed 14 turnovers in the loss.

The Trailblazers are off until next week when they travel to Simmons College for another non league matchup on Wednesday.
