Hotaling posts double double, however MCLA women fall to Westfield 91-58

North Adams, MA- The visiting Westfield State women's basketball team placed four players in double figures led by Lucy Barrett's game high 22 point effort as they routed the MCLA Trailblazers 91-58 in MASCAC action.  With the win, the Owls improve to 8-6 on the season and are now 2-0 in the league.  The Trailblazers drop to 5-7 overall and sit at 0-2 in the conference.

The Owls up tempo full court style wreaked havoc all afternoon for the Trailblazers as they forced 42 turnovers in the game.  Westfield opened the game by blitzing the Trailblazers 25-6 in the opening quarter to create some separation.  The Trailblazers crept back into the game in the second quarter as they broke the press and shot a torrid 75% in the quarter as they trailed 45-30 at halftime.

Westfield opened the second half on a 15-2 spurt with Barrett as the catalyst.  She ignited the run with a three point play and then drilled a three pointer as she scored 8 points in the first minute of the quarter.  The run increased the Owls lead to 60-32 and they never looked back leading by as many as 35 in the second half.

Barrett went 8-13 from the floor and connected on a trio of three pointers for her 22 points.  Jill Valley added 15 points, 7 steals, and 4 assists for the Owls.  Kierra McCarthy and Kirsy Segarra added 13 and 10 points respectively for the Owls.  Westfield amassed 27 steals in the contest and shot 36% from the floor in the win.

MCLA was paced by Kayla Hotaling who ended with a game high 17 rebounds and 13 points.  Ashley Clawson ended with 12 points and 4 assists.  The Trailblazers struggled with the up tempo style committing 42 turnovers in the game.  They shot 44% from the field.

The Trailblazers will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Salem State.
