Women's Basketball can't keep up with Owls in 95-60 loss

Westfield, MA- The Westfield State women's basketball team got a game high 17 point effort from Lucy Barrett and placed three other players in double figures as they sprinted past the MCLA Trailblazers 95-60 tonight at the Woodward Center.  With the win, the Owls stay perfect in league play as they are now 8-0.  WSU is 14-7 overall on the season.

MCLA drops to 7-12 overall and sits at 2-6 in the MASCAC.

Westfield led just 25-17 after one quarter of play and at the half they extended out to a 48-27 lead.  The Owls would start the third quarter on a 15-2 run to effectively put the game away.  Westfield's Jill Valley was outstanding during this stretch as she made a pair of floaters and a three pointer in the key spurt.

The Owls led comfortably for the rest of the way and were never seriously threatened into the fourth quarter.

Barrett and Valley did most of the damage for the up tempo Owl offense.  Barrett was 6-10 with a trio of three pointers for her 17 point night.  Valley was just 6-18 and also connected a three triples to end with 15 points.  WSU's Kierra McCarthy finished with 12 points while Janaiya Sanchez ended with 11 points.  

The Owls shot a solid 45% in the victory and collected 24 assists on the night, led by Ashley Giampetruzzi's 6.

For MCLA, Kayla Hotaling had a solid night finishing with 17 points and 12 boards.  The senior was 7-11 from the floor.  Karina Mattera ended with 13 points and was the only other Trailblazer in double figures.

The Trailblazers were hurt by the Owl pressure to the tune of 32 turnovers and shot just 40% in the contest.

MCLA is back home this weekend when they host Salem State at 3pm on Saturday.
