Women's hoop goes cold in 52-32 loss at Union (NY)

Schenectady, NY- Union's Nicole Conley scored 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Dutchwomen held visiting MCLA to just 26% shooting as they pulled away from the Trailblazers earning a 52-32 win in non conference action.  Union evens their mark at 4-4 on the season.  The Trailblazers drop their third straight as they're now 4-7 on the season.

Union never trailed in this one leading 10-9 after one quarter and increasing the lead to 23-16 at halftime.  The Dutchwomen took control early in the third quarter as Corina Lindsey and Conley drilled back to back three's increasing the margin to 29-18.  MCLA answered with two straight buckets, but Union embarked on an 11-1 spurt to shoot out to a 40-23 lead.  The Trailblazers would score the final five points of the third quarter, but still trailed 40-28 heading to the fourth.

Union left little doubt to the outcome as they held MCLA without a point for the opening five minutes of the quarter.  The lead grew to as many as twenty points as they coasted to victory.

Conley was 5-15 from the floor for her 15 point effort.  She was the only player in double figures for Union.  Lindsay and Jenni Barra each ended with nine points apiece.  Union overcame 21 turnovers in the win, but just six came after halftime.  

The suffocating Union defense held MCLA to just 14-55 shooting (26%) which included a 2-18 showing from three point range.  MCLA also committed 17 turnovers in defeat and were outrebounded 43-27 on the night.

Sam Gawron was the leading scorer for MCLA with 9 points.

MCLA is back in action on Thursday night as they prepare to host Becker College at 6pm in the Amsler Campus Center.
