Women's Basketball drops non league game to Western New England 79-61

North Adams, MA- The visiting Western New England women's basketball team placed three players in double figures and used an explosive third quarter to pull away from the MCLA Trailblazers and earn a 79-61 win over the Trailblazers.  The Golden Bears improve to 8-2 on the season while MCLA drops to 3-5 overall.

In the opening half, Western New England never trailed as they built a 21-14 lead after one quarter and then a 37-32 halftime lead.  Both teams shot the ball very well over the opening twenty minutes of action as the Golden Bears were 50% while the hosts were even better at 56%. 

WNE led by as many as 11 in the opening half at 33-22 after a Meghan Orbann three point play with 3:22 left til halftime.  MCLA would then outscore WNE 10-4 over the final minutes to pull within five at 37-32. 

The Golden Bears started the third quarter with a 9-2 spurt to jump out in front 46-34 after Sydney Fisher's triple.  They would ride that momentum to a commanding 19 point advantage at the end of three quarters.  They led by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter before settling on the final score.

Emily Farrell led the WNE offense with 14 points and added 6 assists in the win.  Meghan Orbann collected 13 points, while Emily Scurka ended with 11 points and 5 rebounds, all of which came in the second half of play.

The Golden Bears shot 50% from the floor in the contest to earn the win.

MCLA was paced by Kylah Langston's 14 point night.  Courtney Pingelski and Sam Gawron each ended with ten points.   Mckenzie Robinson scored just two points but ended with 7 assists.

The Trailblazers also shot well, converting 47% of their attempts, but they did commit 16 turnovers.

MCLA will wrap up semester play on Monday when they host Union (NY) at 5pm.  Western New England is now off until January.
