Women's Basketball drops semester finale at home to Union 56-46
North Adams, MA- Union's Nicole Conley scored 16 of her game high 23 points in the second half as she led a rally as the Dutchwomen earned a 56-46 win over the MCLA Trailblazers in non league play. Union trailed 29-21 at halftime, but outscored MCLA 35-17 over the final twenty minutes to earn the win.
Union improves to 5-2 heading into semester break. The Trailblazers drop their fifth straight in falling to 3-6 as they also enter semester break.
MCLA led at the half behind a defensive effort that created 13 first half turnovers. Union came out hot in the second half thought to quickly gain momentum. After MCLA opened a 31-21 lead, their largest of the night, Union responded with a 15-4 surge to knot things up at 36-36 heading to the final quarter.
From there, Conley took over. The senior scored ten points in the quarter as Union used a 7-0 spurt to take the lead for keeps. Conley's triple started the run and when Anna Metcalf converted a pair of free throws, they led 47-40. MCLA got no closer the rest of the way as the Union defense suffocated the Trailblazer offense.
Conley was 8-17 from the floor but also finished with 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Elly Vaughan ended with 12 points and 10 boards as well to compliment Conley. Metcalf finished with 10 points. Union shot 47% from the floor, but held MCLA to just 32% shooting.
The Trailblazers were led by Sam Gawron's team high of 14 points. She also added 8 rebounds and 2 steals. L'Rae Brundige ended with 12 points for MCLA.
Both teams are off until January during exams and the holiday break.
