Women's Basketball handed 73-45 defeat by Bridgewater in MASCAC action

North Adams, MA- The visiting Bridgwater State women's basketball team placed five players in double figures as they rolled past the MCLA Trailblazers 73-45 this evening in MASCAC play.  The Bears improve to 6-8 on the season and open the conference slate at 1-0.  MCLA lost their second straight as they fall to 4-8 overall and are 0-2 in the conference.

MCLA led early in this one as they jumped out in front 10-2 behind six points from Erika Ryan.  From there, the Bears dominated the first half.  They would end the quarter on a 17-0 run fueled by Olivia DelGrosso and Destiny Fitzgerald.  The duo combined for 12 points in the spurt as they led 19-10 after one quarter.

The Bears didn't let up in the second quarter as Fitzgerald imposed her will.  She would score eight more points in the quarter as they would build a 40-20 halftime lead.  BSU shot 47% in the half after their slow start.  They also held the Trailblazers to just 33% shooting from the field.  They turned over MCLA 13 times in the half.

The visitors opened the second half on a 14-0 run to put the game away as they increased their lead to 54-20.  The would lead by as many as 42 points before settling on the final margin.

Olivia DelGrosso led all scorers with 21 points on an impressive 8-12 showing from the floor.  She added 4 assists and 3 steals for the Bears.  Fitzgerald finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds.  Danielle Arcidiacono chipped in with 11 points while Sara DaSilva and Kailyn Aguiar each ended with 10 points.  

The Bears shot 44% in the win and forced 19 turnovers.  

MCLA was paced by L'Rae Brundige's team best 13 point night.  The Trailblazers shot just 26% in the contest.

The Trailblazers will head to Worcester State on Saturday while the Bears will host Westfield State as both teams continue MASCAC play.
