Women's Basketball drops home tilt to Salem State 59-40

North Adams, MA- The visiting Salem State women's basketball team shut down the MCLA offense as they defeated the Trailblazers 59-40 in MASCAC action this evening from the Amsler Campus Center.  With the win, the Vikings improve to 4-10 overall and earned their first conference win as they're now 1-2.

MCLA falls to 2-11 overall and is 0-3 in the league.

Salem didn't waste any time in this one as they jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one quarter of play.  The Vikings really clamped down on MCLA in the second quarter as they held MCLA to just 1-16 shooting in the period.  They outscored MCLA 20-2 to seize total control.  They would eventually lead 34-11 at the half.  Liz Zaiter led all scorers with 12 first half points.

Both teams were sloppy with the ball as they combined for 34 first half turnovers.  MCLA shot just 13% over the opening twenty minutes of action.

Salem held MCLA at bay in the second half as the Trailblazers could get no closer than 16 points.

The Vikings were paced by Zaiter's team high of 15 points.  She added 12 rebounds.  Mia Crowley collected 12 points in the win.  Salem overcame 29 turnovers to earn the win.

MCLA was led by Kylah Langston's game high of 16 points.  The Trailblazers committed 28 turnovers and shot just 22%.

MCLA heads on the road Saturday to take on Framingham State at noon.  Salem State will host Worcester State on Saturday.
