Lacrosse's Anderson receives internship grant from NCAA

North Adams, MA- MCLA senior Kaleigh Anderson has accepted an NCAA grant funded internship position to work in the Sports Information office at Elms College beginning this fall.  This Internship is funded for two years (September 1, 2015 – August 31, 2017) through the NCAA Ethnic Minority and Woman Internship Grant program. Continuation of the position beyond 8/31/17 is contingent upon grant renewal.

Anderson has been a part of the MCLA webcasting team for the better part of two years.  She has also put together a weekly recap show, worked on season previews, and student athlete features as part of her development.

"At MCLA I was given the opportunity to start working as a sports commentator my sophomore year, and then as a junior I was promoted to the title of broadcast sports event manager. The athletics department as well as the television studio gave me invaluable time to learn the in's and out's of sports broadcasting and gave me years of experience I would not have received anywhere else," Anderson said when looking back at how it all came together.

Within the MCLA Athletics department various home games are typically webcast ranging from Men's and Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Men's and Women's Basketball, and now Women's Lacrosse.  In partnering with the TV studio and faculty member Peter Gentile, the department also produced the weekly shows and features.

Anderson was very forthcoming about the opportunities MCLA presented, "Peter Gentile hired me and believed in me for years, he pushed me to excel and step out of my comfort zone. I am excited to bring this work ethic to Elms College and push student interns to be the best that they can be just as Peter pushed me."

While the grant position can be very general and specific to Elms' needs, Anderson expects to be heavily involved in bringing webcasting to life along with more video style profiles of the student athletes at Elms.  "I'm really excited to be the recipient of such a valuable opportunity, everything I have learned through my work within MCLA Athletics I hope to share with Elms College from live streaming to video editing," Anderson continued.

The senior just wrapped up the inaugural women's lacrosse season at MCLA and will graduate this weekend.
