Trailblazers drop season opener 14-4 at Bard

Poughkeepsie, NY- Host Bard College received 4 goals and 3 assists from Caleigh DeCaprio as the Raptors ran past the visiting MCLA Trailblazers 14-4 in a chilly lacrosse match played at Marist College.  The Raptors even their early season mark at 1-1 while today marked the season opener for the Trailblazers (0-1).

Bard's Casey Witte got the Raptors on the board four minutes into the contest for an early 1-0 advantage.  DeCaprio would net her first goal just 40 seconds later making it 2-0, and Witte tallied again to give Bard a 3-0 edge forcing a Trailblazer timeout.

Coming out of the timeout, MCLA's Natalie Caney scored off a Kim Granito feed for the Trailblazers first marker and when Granito scored with 14:54 left in the first half, it was 3-2 in favor of Bard.  From there, it would be all Raptors.

They scored 9 straight goals to close the half to open up a commanding 12-2 advantage at halftime.  In the second half, Bard extended the lead to 14-2 before Caney and Granito closed out the scoring late to provide the final margin.

For Bard, Marion Adams, Melissa Rosenthal, Witte, and Dylan McDonald all ended with a pair of goals.  The Raptors collected 27 shots in the cold conditions and scooped up 24 groundballs on the afternoon.

MCLA was paced by Caney and Granito with the two goals apiece.  They committed 16 turnovers and were limited to just 11 groundballs and 16 shot attempts.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Friday when they open up at home against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 4pm at Shewcraft Field.
